Fashion Tips for Students Who Don't Care
If you are anything like me, you probably don’t care too much about the clothes you wear. Going shopping for clothes is a dreaded task that you speed through every time you have to.
Appearance is everything, though. You need to at least put a minimal amount of care into your appearance.
Don’t fret. Your lack of empathy (or more plainly, care) for fashion can be clouded by your appearance.
Are you wearing clothes that somewhat match or won’t blind whoever is looking at you because your pants are at the opposite end of the color spectrum from your shirt? This is very, very important if you want to appear like you care. It really isn’t that difficult to match your clothes. Usually, erverything goes well with a pair of jeans. So, if you have a few pairs of jeans, I recommend you wear those and just go crazy with the choice for a top. Khakis are also a good choice if you are bad at matching your pants with a shirt.
Are you mixing up your day-to-day fashion choices? If you wore a pair of jeans and a polo shirt yesterday, maybe you should try wearing a button down and jeans today. Then, the next day, you can throw on a pair of khakis and a t-shirt (wearing a plain colored shirt is usually your best choice for looking fashionable, but I have been known on most occasions to wear t-shirts with funny expressions on them).
If you don’t want to iron your button down shirts, then I recommend putting them in the dryer for 15 minutes to get rid of some of the wrinkles. You will appear as if you have ironed your shirt. You can also try hanging your shirt in your shower room, allowing the steam from your hot shower to get rid of a few of the wrinkles.
In terms of where to buy your clothing, I recommend thrift stores such as Goodwill. When I competed in Moot Court Competitions, I used to go out and buy my suits from Goodwill. I would then clean the suit, usually by putting it in the wash, and then hanging it up in my dorm room until it was time for me to pack it up for the competition. It was amazing to me how similar, and new, my suit looked in comparison to everyone else.
If you are going to buy clothes from Goodwill or another thrift store, I highly encourage you to wash the item of clothing before wearing it — just in case its previous owner didn’t.
